What are Naturopaths?

Naturopaths are health practitioners who apply natural therapies and Naturopathic Medicine to support their patients to improve their health and wellness, reduce common ailments, and overcome illness and disease. They often integrate functional medicine and preventative medicine into their practice.

Naturopathic Medicine is a health science system that uses natural remedies to help the body heal itself. Naturopathy can include a range of treatments such as herbal medicine, western herbal medicine, nutrition, advice on lifestyle, Iridology, water therapy and homeopathy, and many Naturopaths practice their own combination of these treatments.

They are able to support men's, women's, and children's health. Our Naturopath Services

1A. Initial Naturopath Consultation

  • Initial Naturopath Consultation ($220) (45 mins - 1 hour)

This appointment is expected to take between 40 minutes and 1 hour. During this appointment, you will describe any health symptoms, health challenges and/or concerns with your Naturopath, who will start to fit necessary jigsaw puzzle pieces together and plan how these can be treated.

Your Naturopath will develop a Wellness Plan for you to take home with you and follow.

OR

1B. Initial (Complex) Naturopath Consultation

  • Initial (Complex) Naturopath Consultation ($270) (1 hour - 1 1/2 hours)

This appointment is expected to take between 1 hour and 90 minutes and is intended to give you enough time to discuss more complex health issues (or interrelated health challenges) with your Naturopath.

During this appointment, you will describe any health symptoms, health challenges and/or concerns with your Naturopath, who will start to fit necessary jigsaw puzzle pieces together and plan how these can be treated.

Your Naturopath will develop a Wellness Plan for you to take home with you and follow.

OR

1C. Initial Fertility or IVF Consultation (for Singles or Couples)

  • Initial Fertility or IVF Consultation (for Singles or Couples) ($330) (1 hour to 1 1/2 hours)

You should book this consultation rather than the Initial Naturopath Consultation or the Initial (Complex) Naturopath Consultation if you are in the process of trying to fall pregnant, have fertility concerns, or are on the IVF journey. Because the health of both partners can affect their ability to conceive, this consultation gives our Naturopaths the chance to meet with both partners, discuss their health and current lifestyle, and develop a Wellness Plan that will support the ability to conceive.

Due to the extensive nature of the required discussion surrounding fertility or IVF, this consultation is expected to take between 1 hour to 90 minutes). Your Naturopath will develop a Wellness Plan for you to take home with you and follow.

OR

1D. Iridology Consultation

  • Iridology Consultation ($220) (45 mins to 1 hour)

Iridology is a non-invasive holistic healing technique that involves studying the coloured part of the eye, as the iris can be used to understand every organ of the body. Observations of the iris can be used as a de facto window into the body itself. This consultation is expected to take between 40 minutes to 1 hour.

Through Iridology, we have an amazingly effective way to understand more about our patients’ health. For example, signs of discolouration in the iris can reveal weaknesses in the body, and this can inform preventive health support strategies. In this way, Iridology is a highly useful diagnostic tool for detecting problematic signs that in time could lead to disease or dysfunction.

Your Naturopath will develop a Wellness Plan for you to take home with you and follow.

Testing (optional but may be recommended)

Your Naturopath may recommend you carry out some tests, depending on the nature of your symptoms and the principles of Western Herbal Medicine. These may include:

Our pricing is subject to change - if the supplier charges extra for your test kit or postage we will ask you to pay that extra. We will keep you informed of any changes.

How it works is that you pay for the test kit at the end of your appointment. We then send away for the test kit to the supplier, and ask them to deliver the kit to your home address. You take the test in accordance with the supplier’s instructions, and then you post the used samples or specimens back to the supplier. The supplier will send us your test results when they are ready, and we will let you know if you haven’t already booked an appointment.

Please note that for compliance reasons, we are not able to provide your test results to you without you attending a Naturopath Test Results Consultation, as your Naturopath will need to interpret your results and identify the best way forward after that.

We are unfortunately unable to influence the speed of the test results arriving, so we do not offer a refund for test results that “take too long”. On average, you may need to wait 3 or 4 weeks to receive your test result. We regularly check in with the supplier on your behalf to see whether your results have arrived.

Supplements and Liquid Herbs (optional but may be recommended)

Your Naturopath may recommend that you start taking particular Practitioner-Approved Supplements and/or Liquid Herbs to help support your health condition(s).

We are likely to have these in our lovely Wavell Heights and Cannon Hill Clinic, but we do sometimes need to order them in for you (in which case we will ask for payment up front and will request that you pay for postage to your house if you are not picking them up from the Clinic).

We have recently substantially reduced the prices of all our supplements to make them more affordable for you.

2A. Naturopath Test Results Consultation (necessary if you were asked to carry out testing)

  •  Naturopath Test Results Consultation ($180) (45 mins - 1 hour)

If your Naturopath recommends you carry out some testing, you will need to attend a Naturopath Test Results Consultation once your test results are received.

This consultation is expected to take between 40 minutes to 1 hour and will involve your Naturopath reviewing your test results with you, explaining what they mean, and relating the results to your health challenges and symptoms.

Your Naturopath will also work with you to develop a more comprehensive Treatment Plan.

OR

2B. Subsequent Naturopath Consultation

  • Subsequent Naturopath Consultation ($150) (45 mins - 1 hour)

If your Naturopath wants to see you after your Initial Naturopath Consultation, but you haven't carried out any testing, this will be the consultation to book. It is expected to take between 40 minutes to 1 hour.

During this consultation, your Naturopath will work with you to develop a more comprehensive Treatment Plan.

FAQs

1. What is Naturopathic medicine?

Naturopathic medicine is a holistic way of looking at the body and treating its symptoms to get to the root cause of the health issue. Naturopaths (often called Naturopathic Doctors in the US) will usually take a full medical history from their patient, carry out functional testing, and consider their patients' whole health in diagnosing their health conditions and helping to improve their overall health.

2. What are Naturopathic doctors

Naturopathic doctors isn't a term we use in Australia, as we avoid calling anyone a doctor unless they have completed a traditional medicine degree (or hold a PHD). We usually call our practitioners Naturopaths, or Naturopathic Practitioners, as a Naturopath is not actually a doctor with that level of education in medicine.

3. What are Naturopathic Physicians?

Naturopaths in Australia are not usually Naturopathic physicians nor Naturopathic doctors, and they do not as a rule have clinical training in medicine as required by a doctor nor perform minor surgeries (which some may do in the US). Instead, they practice in complementary medicine and Western herbal medicine.

4. What ongoing professional development must Naturopaths carry out?

Our Naturopaths at Brisbane Livewell Clinic are all members of one of Naturopath Professional Associations in Australia, and they carry out the ongoing professional development required by that Naturopath Association. Many also carry out scientific research and clinical practice in complementary medicine, western herbal medicine, nutritional supplements and complementary therapies.
