How do you Kick Start Weight Loss? Weight Loss is equal parts science and part art. The art comes in the picture when you eat fresh and colourful fruits and vegetables. On the other hand, science is more about how you do it, rather than what you do. And science tells us that you don’t have to stop eating to lose weight. In fact, you need to be cautious about your intake. Whether you eat a lot or very little, it’s the nutrient composition that matters.
Our Nutritionist suggests a few quick tips to give you a head start!
1. Never skip breakfast
Most people skip breakfast to lose weight. Instead of having a positive effect—as you would expect—skipping the first meal can affect your metabolism. Why does this happen? Breakfast kick-starts your metabolism. No breakfast means your digestion will work at a slower pace. This also means you will be hungrier and will consume more at lunch. A light and healthy breakfast will make you feel fuller with a small lunch.
2. Drink lots of water
We all know that water doesn’t result in weight gain. But most don’t realise how it can help quicken weight loss. Drinking more water can help your digestive system and boost metabolism. This means more food is utilised and turned into energy. Your body will also feel healthy and less fatigued. Try replacing beverages and other drinks with water. Soda can contribute to weight gain because of high sugar content. Choosing water instead will have a bonus of boosting metabolism.
3. Whole grains > white flour
Whole grain and low sugar options are better. Sugar can result in weight gain, so it is sensible to give it up. Whole-grain foods have a high fibre content. Fibres help digestion and make you feel fuller with only a few calories. What’s more important is that you’ll still get all the required nutrients. Fibres are one of the most important nutrients to keep your metabolism active.
4. Spend more time out in the sun
Exercise has a positive effect on both our mind and body. Physically, it can help you lose body fat. But that’s not it! The repetitive exercise pattern can help your mind concentrate on the task at hand. It can also relieve stress and make you feel more positive. Guess what? Feeling happy and positive can boost your metabolism and even help in weight loss!
5. Motivate yourself!
Why do you want to lose weight should be clear cut. Are you doing this because someone told you to? This should never be the reason. Feel confident in yourself. When you decide to lose weight to feel healthier or more comfortable in your body, you will be closer to accomplishing the goal. Make a list of small goals, keep track, and reward yourself. Buy something other than fat gaining chocolates, of course…
