Bowen Therapy

» Jenny Jenkins

Jenny JenkinsJenny Jenkins

Bowen Therapist

Certificate IV Bowen Therapy, Full Member of the Bowen Assoc Australia, Full Member of Bowtech, the Bowen Therapy Academy of Australia.

Jenny was so impressed with her very first Bowen treatment and amazed at the effectiveness of the treatment, she commenced training to become a Bowen therapist and has never looked back. Her passion is helping others.

Bowen Therapy is a soft tissue therapy, restoring balance via the autonomic nervous system.  It is a dynamic holistic treatment that treats the whole person, aims to treat the cause of problems rather than the symptom.  It uses the body’s innate healing ability to deliver signals to the nervous system to specific locations and the body does the rest to start the healing process. The Bowen technique was created by the late Thomas Bowen from Geelong Australia in the 1950s.

Gentle moves are performed over your connective tissue, muscles and tendons to help the body to relax, repair and reset itself.  It is a gentle form of therapy suitable for all age groups from newborn babies through to the elderly.  It takes your body out of the ‘fight or flight response’ and into your ‘rest, relax and digest response’ state.

During a Bowen treatment, Jenny helps with a range of health issues, both acute and chronic, from relieving pain including:

Back and sciatic pain, neck and shoulder pain, hip, knee and ankle injuries, headache and migraines, digestive and bowel problems, menstrual and hormonal irregularities, RSI and carpal tunnel syndrome and tennis elbow.

It is also useful for respiratory conditions like asthma and gastrointestinal disorders like irritable bowel syndrome.  Bowen also helps with stress, fatigue, depression, anxiety, high blood pressure and flexibility.

Jenny treats patients at our Wavell Heights Clinic.

Emma is a passionate Clinical Nutritionist dedicated to delivering a holistic, results- driven, personalised approach, that not only educates but empowers her clients. As a Nutritionist Emma looks at nutrient absorption and bringing back the body’s biochemistry into homeostasis. In simple terms homeostasis is when the body is functioning at its optimum level. This is without pain or discomfort. This is not achieved solely through ‘good nutrition’. It’s a balance between mental clarity, physical movement (be it playing with your children, a casual walk along the water front or pumping iron in the gym) and good nutrition.

Good nutrition is enjoying foods you love. Its not restrictive, constant dieting fads, or going without. Good nutrition is balance, variety and enjoying what you love. Good nutrition is completely individual!

» Michael McCloskey

Michael McCloskey

Certificate IV Remedial Therapies (Kinesiology), Certificate IV Basic Kinesiology Programme Kinesiology Kinesiology Schools Australia, Diploma in Kinesiology Kinesiology Schools Australia, Mentor Certificate Australian Institute of Kinesiologists Ltd, Instructor Certificate Neural Organisational Therapy The Academy of Applied Bio-Neurology Australasia

Michael McCloskey is a highly trained and experienced kinesiologist. Michael was drawn to the field of kinesiology over 20 years ago after experiencing first-hand its power for healing. He trained under one of Brisbane’s leading practitioners, Danny Liddell and has been dedicated to healing people ever since.
Michael is a certified expert in Neural Integration and control and has a special interest in treating children’s learning difficulties, chronic pain in the elderly and stress.

Life is better when your body is Pain Free and Balanced.

AREAS OF SPECIALITY

  • Pain relief and management
  • Neural Integration and Control
  • Learning difficulties in children
  • Chronic pain in the elderly
  • Stress Relief
  • Digestive dysfunctions

TREATING LEARNING DIFFICULTIES

Kinesiology works to address an over-active stress response system where the body is in a constant state of high alert. Children can be stuck in this state which decreases the ability for the brain to receive the signals it needs for optimal learning. Kinesiology switches off this unwanted energy pathway, inhibiting retained neo-natal reflexes and allowing for a calmer, more effective learning experience.  Michael has a keen interest in helping children with learning difficulties and his skills in this area are highly regarded by his peers.

CHRONIC PAIN IN THE ELDERLY

It is Michael’s belief that everyone can benefit from kinesiology from the very young to the elderly. As they get older, people often suffer unnecessarily from chronic pain associated with the natural process of aging. Common ailments such as aching joints and back pain can be effectively treated using kinesiology. Kinesiology can also help the elderly with focus and concentration. Michael uses specialised, advanced kinesiology techniques to provide the foundation and the basis for everyone to perform at their peak ability.

STRESS RELIEF

Humans are wired to protect themselves in dangerous situations where they feel fear – the heart rate increases, blood is sent away from the digestive system to the limbs and higher-executive thinking is swapped for fight or flight. The modern world is full of perceived threats and we can become stuck in overdrive. Kinesiology techniques balance the nervous system, correct the energy flow and enable calm to return.

KINESIOLOGY IS ALL ABOUT BALANCE

An imbalance in one part of your body creates imbalances elsewhere and any pain from past traumatic experiences is often stored somewhere inside you, blocking vital energy flow. Kinesiology is the science of energy balancing and is grounded in the study of anatomy and physiology. When neurological messaging is functioning correctly and when the physical, mental, emotional, chemical and electrical systems are balanced, the body’s natural energy systems create a healthy, well being.

Simply put - the best place for overall health! I’ve been meaning to write a review for a while now and finally after having a recent bulging disc flare up I can honestly say Jules (massage therapist) & Kylie (acupuncturist) are the A TEAM! They are both are so knowledgeable and go above and beyond to make sure I leave feeling better than when I arrived. I literally wasn’t able to walk properly when I arrived and within 2 days I had proper mobility in my hips and lower back. I can’t thank this team enough! You can’t put a price on health but every cent spent here is worth it.

I visited a few weeks ago to have a lymphatic drainage massage. I am pregnant and was very well looked after and cared for by Jules. It was a really good experience with good communication and Jules took the time to help me and ensure I left feeling much better than I entered. Will book again soon.

I saw Craig a few years ago now during one of the hardest times of my life. All the medical professionals couldn’t find anything wrong with me but I knew that I wasn’t well. I was suffering from post viral fatigue and Craig was the only one who helped me. He really cared about my health and helped me to recover. I’m much better today and want to thank Craig for the support he gave me when no one else could help me.

After a few years struggling with thyroid disease I finally started to few better. Unfortunately the conventional medicine is very limited and don't see your body as a whole but in separate parts not connected. Craig has helped me to find what my body needed to optimize my health, something you won't find with your GP. It might sound costly but living a live of limitations can be way more costlier.

Months after recovering from Glandular Fever, I still felt like I had no energy, was constantly tired, had stomach issues and continually struggled to get out of bed. Dr did not find anything in my blood work after many visits, but I knew I was not well. Eventually I tracked down this clinic and had consultations with Craig Baron. Craig was absolutely amazing and really seeks a holistic approach. He builds a profile of your health issues and spends time getting to understand your mental wellbeing. Craig recommended some remedies and a change in my diet. Since visiting him, I have felt so much better, I have been able to get back to the gym and I finally have energy to do things. Thank you Craig for helping me feel like myself again!

The staff are friendly and welcoming. I have been seeing Fiona on a regular basis and I know when I go I don’t have to say anything to her about any pain or stiffness as she finds my problem spots even the ones I didn’t know I had. Fiona always provides information on how to help get things back in track. I recommend Fiona to anyone who needs a massage to assist with any tightness, pain or injury.

I know I’ll always be grateful that I found Brisbane Livewell Clinic. Craig leaves no stone unturned when it comes to looking at health issues and I’m feeling so much better than I did when I started going. I have more energy, my problematic skin issues have cleared up and my mood is better. I still have work to do but it is great to know that I have a practitioner I can count on who will spend time talking things through, and consider all possibilities. We are all unique and our health issues can be complex, so it’s important to have someone you can trust to help you work things out and get to the causes. My whole family Now attends the clinic. I would highly recommend them if you are serious about feeling your best self.

I booked into the Livewell Clinic in desperation after spending seven months and thousands of dollars seeing GPs and Specialists who couldn't help me. I started having these weird episodes where I would get terrible nausea and dejavu and felt like I was about to have a fit.Heart and brain scans were clear so I was referred to a neurologist. After heaps more tests they told me my symptoms were similar to Epileptic Aura but they couldn't treat me because the scans were clear. They told me to try and de-stress and they would continue to monitor me.When the episodes got worse, a friend recommended I try a naturopath and so I googled and found Craig. He has been amazing at treating my "excitable nervous system". I like how he explains the science behind things and is very knowledgeable. I have been seeing him for less than a month but my episodes have reduced and I feel much better. It's only early days but I have noticed my heart is not racing as much, I'm calmer and have more energy. I have never tried alternate medicine before, or posted a review of a service, but decided to post this because it might help someone else going through a similar thing.

Trudy is wonderful! She shows genuine care and interest in my goals - and is realistic and practical. I feel really comfortable with her which means I can be totally open (about going off the rails with my nutrition!). She also has a great sense of humor and is incredibly knowledgeable. All of the team I’ve had encountered are also lovely. I initially came to the clinic because of the online booking function but Trudy is what keeps me coming back!

I feel that the attention to details surrounding my food issues is being carefully considered before pointing fingers at any particular food. The new larger range food intolerance test I did, the last one was 8 years ago, opened my eyes to how far the research and accuracy of these tests has come along. Looking forward to eating without guessing!

After being dismissed by an Endocrinologist with my rT3 results and telling me it’s a “naturopath thing” - well, it made perfect sense to me to see a naturopath AND I’m glad I did. My partner even commented when I got home because he could see how totally deflated I was when I got home from the appt with the so called specialist over a week ago. He said to me yesterday - well that must of gone well because you have a smile on your face......I’m looking forward to feeling better once my levels get back to normal. Thank you Katarina !
