Comprehensive Guide to Bowen Therapy

Last Updated on 15 August 2024 by Brisbane Livewell Clinic

An increasing number of people now prefer to opt for natural treatments instead of conventional ones to avoid the side effects, pain, and other problems associated with conventional treatments. One such natural treatment is Bowen therapy– a multidimensional and holistic approach towards healing and pain relief. This therapy has attained amazing results in the last 50 years. Read on to find out what you need to know about Bowen therapy.

Bowen therapy is a remedial technique which focuses on the soft connective tissue in the body. This therapy is used to treat neurological or musculoskeletal problems, including organic or chronic issues and acute sports injuries.  It avoids forceful manipulation and opts for a relaxing and gentle technique.

How Bowen Therapy Works?

Bowen therapy includes a sequence of small movements with different pressures. Each movement is focused on a certain body part. The therapists utilize light exercises of ligament, tendon, or muscle, with soft movements which makes the therapy pleasant. Typically, this takes between 30 to 60 minutes. This treatment can be done through light clothing layer but not with thick garments. During the therapy, a 3 to 5-minute break is taken to allow your body to respond to the therapy before continuing.

What to Expect from Bowen Therapy

Bowen therapy is not an ongoing treatment, which is why an individual can heal and experience relief merely after the first session or latest by three sessions. However, if you are experiencing long-standing or chronic conditions, there may be a need for additional sessions and treatments.

How Can Bowen Therapy Help?

Bowen therapy is very gentle and is suitable for newborn babies, pregnant women, elderly, and individuals with a frail physique. This therapy helps in recovering from various conditions from chronic illness to traumatic injury, depending on the healing ability of an individual.

This therapy is best for the following conditions:

  • Accident and sports injuries
  • Sciatica and back pain
  • Bowel and digestive problems like IBS
  • Migraines, ear infections and earache
  • Chronic fatigue
  • Foot, ankle and knee problems
  • Hay fever and respiratory problems
  • Pelvic tilt and groin pain
  • Shoulder and neck problems like frozen shoulder
  • Hormonal and menstrual irregularities
  • Tennis elbow, carpal tunnel syndrome and RSI

Bowen therapy is also safe to use on all individuals, even the elderly and newborns, to cure any neuromuscular and musculoskeletal problems. Now that you know what you need to know about Bowen Therapy contact a trained Bowen Therapist at Brisbane Livewell Clinic.
