Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) is characterised by severe fatigue and other symptoms like musculoskeletal pain, sleep disturbances, and headaches. The fatigue might get worse with physical and mental activity but does not get better with rest. Scientists have not been able to pinpoint the actual causes of the Disease.
Here are some possible causes of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
1. Viral Infections
Some people have been found to acquire Chronic Fatigue Syndrome after a viral infection. However, the link is not conclusive.
2. Issues with the Immune System
Although there are immune system issues with people having chronic fatigue syndrome, it is not clear whether these issues are strong enough to cause the disorder.
3. Hormonal Imbalance
Hormonal imbalances in areas, such as the hypothalamus and pituitary glands, have been linked with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, but their significance in causing it has not been very well-established.
How Acupuncture Can Help
Acupuncture, the ancient Chinese treatment practice, aims to restore the body’s natural flow of energy. Because it involves identifying acupressure points and stimulating nerve endings with extremely thin, fine needles, the procedure has incredible pain-easing effects. Several studies have validated the effectiveness of Acupuncture in treating Chronic Fatigue Syndrome.
Here’s how Acupuncture Can Help
Balancing the Qi Forces
According to Acupuncturists, an imbalance in the body’s Qi forces might be causing the CFS. Stimulating several strategic points, the body’s harmony can be retained.
The Technique of Moxibustion
Moxibustion is a powerful technique in Acupuncture. It involves burning of the herb mugwort while stimulating the particular pressure points. The herb is taken in its dried form and is lit on a cigarette-shaped stick before the beginning of each session. The acupuncturist stimulates certain areas of the body with the stick. Moreover, heat is allowed to penetrate through the skin. The process of moxibustion can reduce the severity of the CFS. Also, it has been known to improve energy levels significantly.
Making Yin and Yang More Coherent
According to Chinese philosophy, Yin and Yang, the two complementary forces in the body have to be in harmony. Their imbalance can cause disturbances in the person’s immune system, which might lead to CFS.
Acupuncture aims to balance the Yin and Yang. It helps the body release endorphins that, in turn, allow the body to produce antibodies.
These natural antibodies help alleviate quite a few symptoms of this complex disease. These include fatigue relief, ache and pain reduction, and sleep improvement.
