Why Choose Naturopathic Care

Tired of Being Told Your Tests Are Normal?

Many women come to us after months, or years, of symptoms. Persistent fatigue. Irregular or painful periods. Unexplained weight gain. Mood shifts tied to their cycle. Brain fog. Poor sleep. And blood tests that come back “within range.”

Naturopathic medicine takes a different approach. Rather than managing symptoms in isolation, our clinical Naturopaths investigate the underlying drivers: the hormonal imbalances, nutrient deficiencies, gut dysfunction, and stress patterns that standard testing often misses.

We work alongside your GP and specialists, not against them. What we offer is a longer appointment, a deeper investigation, and an natural medicine toolkit that gives you more complete care than either approach alone.

How We Support You

Women's Health Conditions Our Brisbane Naturopaths Treat

Each condition has its own Naturopathic approach. Select yours to learn more, or speak with our Clinic Manager if your concern is not listed.

Naturopath for PCOS

Insulin support, cycle regulation, androgen balance, weight management.

PCOS is one of the most common hormonal conditions in Australia, yet it is often managed primarily through the oral contraceptive pill without addressing underlying drivers. Naturopathic assessment identifies your specific PCOS subtype: insulin-resistant, inflammatory or adrenal. Each requires a different approach. DUTCH hormone testing, dietary changes, targeted herbal medicine and nutritional support are central to care.

Naturopath for Endometriosis

Pain support, oestrogen clearance, inflammation, immune modulation.

Endometriosis affects an estimated one in nine Australian women and takes an average of six to eight years to diagnose. Naturopathic support addresses the terrain: oestrogen clearance via the liver and gut, systemic inflammation, immune dysregulation, and prostaglandin-driven pain. Dietary changes, gut microbiome support and targeted supplementation can translate to a meaningful reduction in daily pain and flare frequency.

Naturopath for Perimenopause

Irregular cycles, mood shifts, fatigue and weight changes in the transition years.

Perimenopause can begin up to ten years before the final menstrual period, often in the early-to-mid forties. Naturopathic assessment identifies where a woman is in the transition, because early perimenopause (progesterone decline) and late perimenopause (oestrogen decline) require different Wellness Plan approaches. Herbal adaptogens, adrenal support, sleep and mood protocols are central tools.

Naturopath for Menopause

Hot flushes, night sweats, mood, bone density, libido and sleep.

For women who cannot or choose not to use HRT, Naturopathic medicine offers a toolkit of herbal adaptogens, phytoestrogens, adrenal support and sleep protocols. For women on HRT, we work alongside that treatment to optimise hormone metabolism and address what HRT does not cover. The goal is the best outcome for you.

Naturopath for PMS and PMDD

Mood swings, bloating, breast tenderness, cramping, emotional dysregulation.

Naturopath for Irregular Periods

Missing, heavy or painful periods. Root cause investigation and support.

Irregular, absent or heavy periods are symptoms, not diagnoses. Naturopathic investigation identifies whether the driver is hormonal imbalance, thyroid dysfunction, nutrient depletion, undereating, excessive exercise or stress. Functional testing including DUTCH and full thyroid panels is ordered where clinically indicated.

Naturopath for Fertility

Preconception care, natural conception, IVF preparation and support.

Preconception Naturopathic care optimises the hormonal environment, nutrient status and metabolic health before conception. For women preparing for IVF, Naturopathic support focuses on egg quality, uterine lining support, stress regulation and reducing systemic inflammation that can impair implantation.

Naturopath for Thyroid Health

Hypothyroidism, Hashimoto’s, hyperthyroidism alongside medical management.

Thyroid function sits at the centre of metabolism, energy, cycle regularity and hormonal balance. Our Naturopaths assess thyroid health using full panels including Free T3, Free T4, reverse T3 and thyroid antibodies, ordered where clinically indicated. Many women with suboptimal thyroid function are told their TSH is normal when a more complete picture tells a different story.

Naturopath for Hormonal Acne

Cycle-linked breakouts, androgen-driven skin, gut and liver support.

Hormonal acne typically flares around ovulation or before a period and is linked to elevated androgens, poor oestrogen clearance, gut dysbiosis or elevated cortisol. Naturopathic treatment addresses the internal drivers rather than surface symptoms, using liver support, gut microbiome work and targeted herbal and nutritional medicine.

Other Hormonal Challenges

Adrenal fatigue, postnatal depletion, low libido, burnout and more.

Adrenal fatigue, postnatal depletion, low libido, burnout and unexplained fatigue are all areas where Naturopathic medicine has a genuine clinical role. Read more on our Fatigue and Energy Naturopath Brisbane page

Naturopath for Immune Health

Autoimmune conditions such as Hashimoto’s thyroiditis and endometriosis

Immune dysfunction in women often has a hormonal component, with autoimmune conditions such as Hashimoto’s thyroiditis and endometriosis being far more common in women than in men. Read more on our Immune Health Naturopath Brisbane page.

How it Works

What Naturopathic Women's Health Care Looks Like

1

In-Depth Consultation

60 minutes exploring your health history, cycle, diet, lifestyle, stress and goals. Your Naturopath reviews any existing test results before recommending anything.

2

Functional Testing

Ordered where clinically indicated. DUTCH hormone panels, thyroid function, iron studies, GI-MAP, DNA testing. Clear data, not assumptions.

3

Your Wellness Plan

A written Wellness Plan combining herbal medicine, targeted supplements, dietary changes and lifestyle recommendations. Specific to your body and your results.

4

Follow-Up Appointments

Your Wellness Plan may be revised at any appointment as your results and symptoms shift. We adjust until it works for you.

How Naturopathy Addresses Women's Hormonal Health

Hormones do not exist in isolation. Oestrogen, progesterone, testosterone, cortisol, insulin, and thyroid hormones all operate as an interconnected system. A disruption in one area produces downstream effects across the others. This is why women so often experience a cluster of symptoms at once: the fatigue, the weight that will not shift, the anxiety that spikes before a period, the skin that breaks out in the thirties.

They are not separate issues. They are the same system signalling that something is off. Naturopathic medicine starts by mapping that system. Your Naturopath identifies where the imbalance originates, what is maintaining it, and which levers, when moved, produce the most meaningful change.

“Most women who come to us have already been told everything is normal. Normal on a standard panel is not the same as optimal for your body. That is exactly where we start.”

Jen Strachan, Clinical Naturopath and Medical Herbalist, Brisbane Livewell Clinic

Working Alongside Your Medical Team

Our Naturopaths do not replace your GP, gynaecologist, or endocrinologist. We work alongside your medical team: interpreting your existing pathology results through a Naturopathic lens, communicating with treating doctors where appropriate, and referring you back when something requires medical investigation or intervention.

We never advise stopping medication without your doctor’s involvement. What we offer is a longer appointment, a deeper investigation, and a set of clinical tools that complement medical management.

Functional Testing

Getting Clear on What Is Happening in Your Body

Our Naturopaths use clinical testing to identify exactly where your hormones are out of balance, interpreting results against optimal ranges for your body, not just broad reference bands. All testing is ordered where clinically indicated.

DUTCH Hormone Testing

The gold standard for mapping sex hormones and adrenal function. Measures oestrogen, progesterone, testosterone, DHEA and cortisol across the full daily pattern. Particularly useful for PCOS, Endometriosis, Perimenopause and adrenal fatigue.

DNA and Methylation Testing

Understanding your genetic predispositions including MTHFR variants, oestrogen metabolism pathways and detoxification capacity allows your Naturopath to build a Wellness Plan grounded in your individual biology.

Comprehensive Blood Panels

Full thyroid panel (TSH, Free T3, Free T4, reverse T3, thyroid antibodies), iron studies, full blood count, Vitamin D, B12, fasting insulin, blood glucose and inflammatory markers, ordered where clinically indicated.

GI-MAP Stool Analysis

DNA-based analysis of gut bacteria, pathogens, inflammation and digestive function. Particularly relevant for Endometriosis, inflammatory PCOS, and hormonal skin conditions where gut health is a central factor.

Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis

Assesses mineral status and toxic metal exposure. Useful for women presenting with fatigue, thyroid dysfunction and hormonal disruption where nutrient status is a key driver of symptoms.

Food Intolerance Testing

IgG antibody testing for delayed food reactions that contribute to systemic inflammation and hormonal disruption. Relevant for Endometriosis, hormonal acne, and persistent digestive symptoms alongside hormonal concerns.

Six months in and my cycles are regular and my skin has completely cleared.”

“I came to Brisbane Livewell Clinic for perimenopause support after struggling with sleep, anxiety and brain fog for over a year. Shella’s approach was thorough and completely different to what I had experienced elsewhere. Within two months I was sleeping properly and feeling like myself again.”

“Amy connected the dots between symptoms my GP had been treating separately for years. The approach is just different, more thorough, more personalised. I finally feel like someone understands what I have been dealing with. I wish I had found a Women’s Health Naturopath in Brisbane sooner.”
