Acne – Hormonal and Inflammatory Drivers

Adult acne involves different drivers to adolescent acne. Hormonal acne in women is typically driven by androgen excess, poor oestrogen clearance or post-pill androgen rebound. Inflammatory acne involves elevated systemic inflammation, gut permeability and food reactivity as primary contributors. Our Naturopaths distinguish between these patterns before prescribing, because the natural treatment approach differs significantly between subtypes.

Eczema and Atopic Dermatitis

Eczema is an immune-mediated inflammatory skin condition with a strong gut permeability component. IgG food reactivity, particularly to gluten and dairy, is a common and frequently unidentified trigger. Our Naturopaths assess gut lining integrity and food reactivity using appropriate testing, and prescribe gut repair protocols alongside anti-inflammatory herbal medicine.

Rosacea

Rosacea involves persistent facial redness, flushing and in some cases papule formation. The drivers include dysbiosis, SIBO which has a well-documented association with rosacea, and neurogenic inflammation triggered by certain foods and environmental factors. Our Naturopaths assess the gut connection in rosacea and design Wellness Plans that address the internal inflammatory drivers.

Psoriasis

Psoriasis is an autoimmune skin condition involving accelerated skin cell turnover driven by systemic inflammation. Gut permeability is a recognised trigger and perpetuator of psoriatic flares. Our Naturopaths address intestinal permeability, inflammatory load, omega-3 status and vitamin D alongside a targeted anti-inflammatory dietary approach.

Hormonal Skin Changes in Women

Post-pill acne is a common presentation in women who have recently stopped the oral contraceptive pill and experience androgen rebound during cycle re-establishment. Perimenopause also produces skin changes as oestrogen declines. Our Naturopaths address these transitions with targeted hormonal and nutritional natural treatment. Frequently Asked Questions

Here are the questions we hear most often, and our practitioners will answer any follow-up enquiries as soon as possible.

Can a Naturopath help with adult acne?
A Naturopath investigates the specific driver of your acne before recommending natural treatment. Hormonal acne, inflammatory acne and post-pill acne each require a different approach. Our Naturopaths assess hormone levels, gut function and inflammatory markers to determine the cause before prescribing.
Can a Naturopath help with eczema?
Naturopathic natural treatment for eczema addresses the gut-immune connection. IgG food intolerance testing identifies reactive foods. Gut lining repair supports the skin barrier from the inside. Anti-inflammatory nutritional and herbal prescriptions reduce systemic inflammatory load.
What is the connection between gut health and skin conditions?
The gut and the skin are connected through shared immune and inflammatory pathways. Gut permeability allows inflammatory molecules to enter the bloodstream, triggering or worsening inflammatory skin conditions. Our Naturopaths address the gut as the first priority in most chronic skin conditions.
How long does naturopathic skin treatment take?
Skin conditions typically respond over three to six months of consistent naturopathic care. The skin cell turnover cycle is approximately twenty-eight days, which means changes to the internal environment take several cycles to fully express at the skin surface.
Can I see a skin Naturopath online?
All our Naturopaths offer online videoconference consultations for skin conditions. Testing kits and supplements can be posted to your address.
