Use of Chinese herbs and acupuncture
on treatment of infertility
Yuan
Liu
Infertility refers to the
inability of a couple to achieve conception after a year of unprotected
intercourse, or the inability to carry pregnancies to a live birth. One in six
Australian couples currently suffer infertility. Approximately one-third of
infertility cases can be attributed to male factors, and about one-third to
factors related to the female partner.
Traditional
Chinese Medicine (TCM) has a long history of treatment of infertility and
miscarriage. Records indicated that the first herbal use date was back to 200
A.D and the famous ancient medical text Shang Han Lun mentioned
some formulas that are still used for those purposes today. The traditional
Chinese views are that infertility tends to arise from one or more of three
prominent causes: a "deficiency" syndrome prevents the hormonal
system from properly influencing the sexual and reproductive functions; a
"stagnancy" syndrome prevents the sexual and reproductive organs from
functioning despite normal hormone levels and normal ability to respond to
hormones, and a "heat" syndrome, which causes the affected organs to
function abnormally.
Western
medicine can diagnose infertility with obstruction of the fallopian tubes,
amenorrhea, absent ovulation, endometriosis, uterine fibroids, low sperm count,
nonliquification of semen etc. However, Standing with the holistic healing
process, TCM usually diagnoses the pattens of syndromes such as deficiency,
stagnancy or phlegm syndromes. The treatment of TCM for infertility can be very
useful as it is focuses on devising herb and acupuncture formulas for the
specific pattern of disharmony, differentiated by signs and symptoms. Kidney,
liver and spleen are the most common concerned disharmony organs. Some
laboratory experiments have demonstrated the hormonal effects of Chinese herbs.
Those herbs used to treat impotence and infertility and to prevent
miscarriage.Some clinical studies in
China have revealed that around 70% of all cases of infertility are
successfully pregnant after treated by TCM.
With respects of in
vitro fertilization (IVF), acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine may significantly
benefit the outcome of this procedure. An experiment in the US indicated that
using Chinese medicine as an adjunct to IVF increases the success rate of in
vitro fertilization by as much as 50%. IVF patients are given herbs and
acupuncture at several critical stages during the procedure. At the first
stage, when birth controls pills are administered to regulate hormonal
activity, herbs and acupuncture are used to insure smooth flow to the ovaries.
Next, when drugs are given to stimulate egg production, Chinese herbs and
acupuncture are used to ease the stimulating side effects of the drugs. Similar
herbs are also used before implantation to relax the muscles, prevent
contraction, and better enable the embryo to implant upon the uterus.
Prior
to seeking for TCM, all couples that fail to conceive should undergo a complete
medical examination by a physician to determine the cause of the infertility.
That allows TCM practitioner to better understanding your health condition and
determine the treatment plan as TCM may has less effect on congenital or
structure abnormity. However one advantage of the Chinese herbal approach is
that even if pregnancy does not occur, benefits to health can be attained
because the herbs address imbalances that affect other aspects of health
besides infertility.

“I have seen many
people in my life who are unwell. Unless you are shown how to be well
by someone who knows, it all may seem too hard. I was first introduced
to Natural Therapies when I was 23 and having vision problems. I
considered myself to be young and fairly healthy until I had my first
naturopath appointment; from there I learnt how I could improve my
health physically, emotionally and mentally.
Today no one is
born knowing how to be healthy or well. Influences from our
environment, diet and genetics all play a role in preventing us from
feeling as well as we can. Over the last 30 years I have acquired
knowledge and understanding of the way our bodies work and my aim is to
share this knowledge with you, so that we can work together to manage
your health.”
Bioresonance Therapy Bioresonance

Milo utilizes an advanced
German technology in allergy screening and elimination. This sensitive

allergens, but also brings your whole body back into an overall balance
in the field of hormones, meridians, blood and organs.

was bringing together people of all faith, to build and share one home
in which they could all worship.

Sitting in the Light, a series of guided meditations, (Diamond Thought,
2008) and a spoken word CD Melisma: Buddhist Pilgrimage in India,
(2003). She has also published four books of poetry: pearls &
forbidden fruit (Diamond Thought, 2008), Sarasvati Scrapes, with

Canadian and Australian literary journals. She has served on the
National Council of the Writers’ Union of Canada and in 1994 toured
Australia promoting her various books. She divides her time between
Vancouver, Canada and Brisbane.
Why is change so
difficult? It’s because it involves not only a physical component of
altering behaviours, but it must be coupled with a
mental/emotional/spiritual shift as well. Angela assists clients in
identifying, understanding and knowing their personal beliefs and life
patterns, habits and addictions and then guides them then through as
they made the changes. She offers a fresh perspective, a reframing of
circumstances and situations so people can see how their lives have
made sense to them with their self defeating behaviours and how to
shift out of old patterns to become the person they ultimately were
brought to earth to be. During a session with Angela she may employ
meditation techniques, writing exercises, [suggestions of prayers ?]
and readings for a healthier, more disciplined life filled with spirit.
